What you can start this week —
and what's actually worth your time.

Live vacancies across the Burton → Uttoxeter → Stoke-on-Trent corridor (40-minute drive max — and since you're in a shared room, you can move to wherever the right job is, including near your grandparents in Stoke). Built around what you already have: age 21, three years' clean licence, clean DBS, your own car, and two years selling used caravans — which is high-ticket sales experience, and worth more than you think.

Researched 30 July 2026 · listings decay — apply fast, links checked at build time

The play

Three moves, run in parallel. None of them conflict.

1 · Aim
Car sales — same job, better product. £35–45k OTE roles live now
2 · Bridge
Employed driving or trade counter — steady wage while applications run
3 · Cash now
Burton temp agencies — working within days, weekly pay

Before you accept anything — know what you were actually earning

Your commission structure and fifteen monthly statements are now on the table, and they reframe this whole search. On a £20,000 basic you earned £100 per caravan, plus £100 per Black Horse and £50 per Auto Finance agreement, plus monthly target bonuses of £500 to £1,500, plus annual volume bonuses at 130 and 150 units (£3,000 and £2,000 — both of which you cleared and were paid in 2025).

This is now verified, not estimated. Fifteen monthly commission statements (May 2025 – July 2026) show the actual payroll totals. Across his final twelve payrolls he earned £30,800 in commission and bonuses on top of the £20,000 basic — a genuine £50,800 in his last year, at age 20–21. Which means the £50,000 OTE at Holdcroft Nissan is a sideways move, not a promotion — and Arnold Clark's £25,500 basic with £35–40k OTE would be a pay cut.

Two consequences. First: don't apologise for your age in a salary conversation — you have a two-year track record at roughly £50k and most 21-year-olds walking into a dealership have neither. Second: when anyone asks what you're looking for, the honest answer is "I was on twenty basic with a commission scheme that took me to around fifty last year — I'm looking for something that at least matches it." Work out your real 2025 total from your payslips before the first interview, because someone will ask.

One correction worth knowing: you earned nothing on the motor movers, Tyron bands and warranties — commission was paid only on the caravan and the finance agreement. That makes the attachment rate a better line in an interview, not a worse one: you were putting the dealership's highest-margin product on roughly two-thirds of your deals with no personal incentive to do it. Say that out loud. Still check the £50,800 against your P60 before quoting it.

Why sales first

Two years closing four- and five-figure caravan deals is a directly transferable trade. Dealerships hire on attitude and track record, not qualifications — every trainee ad says so. Driving pays £12–15 an hour whatever you do; sales pays £35k+ within a year if you're any good, and you already know you are. Driving is the stopgap. Sales is the job.

Route 1 — Car sales (the like-for-like move)

Used caravans → used cars is a straight transfer. Being 21 with a clean licence matters here: demo-car insurance is why many dealerships can't hire younger.

Car Sales Executive — Holdcroft Nissan, Hanley (Stoke)

£50k OTE uncapped + company car
VERIFIED LIVE 30 Jul — vacancy open until 27 September 2026

The strongest live sales vacancy on the corridor. Holdcroft is Stoke's big dealer group (a dozen franchises), and this role advertises uncapped commission, a company car, structured training and progression — with no experience bar stated. Hours: Mon–Fri 9–6, Saturdays, Sunday 10–4, with one weekend in three off. Hanley is right by your grandparents — this is the role that makes the Stoke move make sense.

Arnold Clark Motorstore, Burton (DE13) — speculative + one live role

Sales: £25.5k basic + commission when listed
Checked 30 Jul: no sales vacancy live at Burton this week — 45 Sales Consultant roles live group-wide, so it cycles

Still the best location fit: a Motorstore in Burton itself, trainee-friendly (group requirement is just a licence held 1+ year), £25,500 basic plus commission when the role is up. Apply speculatively now — hand a CV in at the branch and register on the careers site — so you're first in the queue when Burton's sales role reopens.

Live at Burton right now: Service Advisor — £30,500 basic, £42,500 OTE. Customer-facing motor trade with real money and no spanner skills needed; worth an application as the bridge into the building you want to sell cars from. (Also live: Pitch Valeter £13/hr — the classic foot-in-the-door role sales managers promote from.)

Internal Sales Executive — via Harvey Beric Associates, Burton

£26–36k OTE
Burton-based recruiter, listed within the last 3 weeks

Office-based B2B sales. Not cars, but a real salary step up from driving, and Harvey Beric is a Burton recruiter worth registering with regardless — tell them: sales background, available now.

Speculative walk-ins (no live ad needed)

Dealerships hire salespeople when a good one walks in, not when HR gets round to advertising. Walk the dealer rows and drop a CV at every franchise showroom: Burton's dealerships first (including the Arnold Clark Motorstore), then Derby's cluster (Pentagon, Evans Halshaw and the franchise row), then Stoke's — Holdcroft's dozen franchises beyond the live Nissan role. Use the walk-in script at the bottom of this page. Ten dealerships = realistic odds of two interviews. Between drops, work the live boards: Totaljobs trainee car sales, Stoke and Indeed car sales, Stoke both carry pages of corridor listings.

Route 2 — Back into leisure vehicles

Your actual trade. Fewer vacancies than cars, but you walk in with relevant experience nobody else applying has.

Motorhome Buyer — We Buy Any Motorcaravan, Bretby (Burton)

£21k basic + commission
Repton House, Bretby Business Park, DE15 0YZ — ten minutes from town

Buying and appraising motorhomes: walk-around videos, negotiating with owners, managing stock. Their ad says "experience in the industry is not necessary" — and you have two years of it. They ask for a C1 licence (see below); the email at the bottom of this page handles that honestly. This is the one role in the area where your caravan background makes you the obvious hire.

Spinney Caravans — Staffordshire branch (Silverdale, Newcastle-under-Lyme ST5)

Speculative — sales ad expired
Checked 30 Jul: their Sales Executive ad has come down; branch confirmed well inside your radius

The sales vacancy has been filled or pulled — but Spinney is a long-established leisure dealer with a branch on your corridor, and sales staff turn over. Send the speculative email (bottom of page, adapted for caravans) and ask them to keep you on file. Their live vacancies are currently technician roles, including a Trainee Service Technician route covering the Staffordshire site — a paid trade qualification inside the industry you know, if selling isn't moving fast enough.

Motorhome Sales Executive — Glossop Caravans

£35–60k advertised

One of the UK's biggest caravan dealerships, advertising until late June 2026 (may have re-listed — worth a call either way). Outside your 40-minute radius — only if you'd relocate for the money.

The C1 licence question

Some motorhome roles (including the Bretby buyer job) want a C1 licence — motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes. You only have category B. C1 is a bolt-on: medical, two theory tests, then a practical.

The route (approximate 2026 figures — confirm prices when booking): D4 medical (~£50–£100 at a private clinic) → apply for provisional C1 entitlement (free, form D2) → lorry theory tests (multiple choice ~£26 + hazard perception ~£11) → a C1 training course and practical test (typically £600–£900 all-in for 3–5 days' training). Realistic total: £700–£1,100 and 4–8 weeks. Worth doing only if a job wants it — it also unlocks 7.5t driving work generally, which pays above van rates. Don't buy it speculatively; do ask employers if they'll fund it.

Route 3 — Driving that's actually worth it at 21

Most driving pays £12–15/hr whoever you work for. The version that makes sense is employed, PAYE, company vehicle — not self-employed with your own costs. Here's what's live and what your age unlocks.

Medical courier — EMED Group (NHS pathology routes)

Company van · PAYE

Solo fixed routes collecting pathology samples from GP surgeries — company van, fuel and insurance provided, no multi-drop chaos. Requirements are just a category B licence held 12+ months and max 6 points. Your clean DBS is a genuine advantage here (NHS-facing work). Bank (zero-hours) roles are a good bridge; days roles are a steady wage.

The trade-plate reality check

Vehicle-movement work looks like the dream driving job. Your dad researched the whole sector in July 2026 — driver reviews, forums, worked examples. Read this before signing up anywhere.

What drivers actually clear

Headline rates advertise "£50–£200/day". Across Indeed and Glassdoor reviews and the driver forums, the repeated real number is £7–8 per hour once you count the unpaid return legs — trains home from wherever you dropped the car, at your own cost, on your own time. Typical realistic take: £250–£500 a week gross, with 12-hour days when connections go wrong. The whole skill of the job is the return journey, not the driving.

It still has a place: zero outlay, pick your own days, no boss. As fill-in cash between other work — take short local moves, refuse anything that strands you, chain jobs around the Derby–Burton–Donington auction belt. As a full-time plan — no.

Engineius is closed to you anyway — they require drivers aged 25–75. BCA (21+) is the one that will take you now.

The 7-day plan

Everything below is free. By next Friday you can have money coming in and every serious application live.

Day 1
Fire the big three. Apply for the Holdcroft Nissan Hanley sales role (verified live, £50k OTE), send the We Buy Any Motorcaravan email (below), and start the BCA trade-plate sign-up at contractorengagement.bca.com — the 2-day induction is the only lead time, so get in the queue even if you never use it.
Day 2
Get on agency books in person. Walk into two Burton agencies (list below) with: driving licence, proof of address, NI number, and a licence share code from gov.uk/view-driving-licence. Tell them: available immediately, any shift, driving or warehouse.
Day 3
Burton–Derby CV drop. Apply to every live dealership role on this page, then physically drop a CV at the speculative-target dealerships. Ask for the Sales Manager by name if you can get it. Ten minutes of nerve beats a hundred online applications.
Day 4
Stoke corridor day. Same again up the A50: Uttoxeter and Stoke targets on this page. You can live near Grandma and Grandad's if the right job lands there — say you're local when you apply.
Day 5
Chase everything. Phone every application from Days 1–4: "I applied Tuesday — I'm keen and I'm available for interview any time. When can I come in?" Sales managers hire people who chase; it IS the interview.
Weekend
Set the machine running. Indeed + Reed alerts for "sales executive" and "driver" across the corridor. Prepare three interview stories: your best deal, the customer who nearly walked, and the month you sold 25 against a target of 21.

Applications out · 6 live as of Thu 30 July

Day three, six applications away, all in sector. That is a proper day's work and it puts him ahead of most people two weeks into a hunt. Keep this table updated — it's also the mitigation record that matters if the wage claim ever goes anywhere.

Two things to check before going further

Cutlers is advertised as self-employed. That matters more than usual given the last three days. Self-employed means no holiday pay, no sick pay, no notice rights, no unfair dismissal protection, and he'd handle his own tax and National Insurance. Some leisure-trade sales roles genuinely are commission-only self-employed and it can pay well — but £27,500 as a starting figure with none of the protections is a different proposition from a £27,500 salary. Ask directly: is this PAYE or a contract for services, and what's the commission structure? Don't rule it out — Cutlers is a good business and it's on the door list anyway — just go in knowing.

Stoneacre is Nottingham NG6 — about 45 minutes, outside the radius he set. Worth it only if the package justifies the commute, and the ad doesn't state pay.

Still outstanding — the best-paid verified role hasn't been applied for

Holdcroft Nissan, Hanley — Car Sales Executive, £50,000 OTE uncapped, company car, no experience bar stated, verified live and open until 27 September. It isn't on Indeed, which is why it got missed: Holdcroft recruit through their own ADP portal at holdcroftmotorgroup.careers.adp.com. The tailored CV and the cover letter citing their 1966 Hanley founding are both already written and sitting in the applications folder. That's the one to do next.

Nice detail worth knowing

Cutlers Sales & Hire was already on the 100-door list — Route 3, Barton-under-Needwood, Equi-Trek horseboxes and Brian James trailers. He found a live vacancy at a business the research had independently flagged as worth walking into. That's the method working from both ends at once.

The execution schedule

Two tracks running at once. Track A is cash — a stopgap job applied for this week so money starts arriving while the real hunt runs. Track B is the career — doors, handshakes, follow-ups. Track A takes about four hours total, once. Track B is the job you do every day until you have an offer.

Read this before anything else

The reason most job hunts fail isn't effort — it's that everything gets done at the wrong time of day. Managers are only catchable between about 10am and 4pm on weekdays. That window is sacred: it is for doors and phones, never for laptop work. Emails, applications, research and CV tweaks are night work, when nobody can be visited anyway.

Anyone can fire off a hundred emails from bed. Almost nobody walks into fifteen businesses and shakes fifteen hands. That asymmetry is your entire competitive advantage — so protect the daylight hours and do the typing after dark.

The priority stack — what actually matters

If a day collapses and you only manage one thing, do the highest-ranked thing still outstanding. Everything below rank 5 is optional.

1

Interim cash secured

Warehouse, supermarket, Amazon, or yes — bar work. Applied for within 48 hours, three applications minimum.

Because a hunt conducted from a position of panic makes bad decisions, and a hunt with rent covered can hold out for the right sales seat instead of grabbing the first thing going.

2

The six named applications sent

Holdcroft, We Buy Any Motorcaravan, Arnold Clark, bet365, EMED, Spinney. The PDFs already exist. Send them.

These are the only genuinely live, verified, well-paid vacancies found. Everything else on this page is prospecting; this is the actual shot on target.

3

Doors knocked, in volume

Twelve to fifteen a day on route days. Names collected every time.

The one thing nobody else applying will do. Volume is the whole mechanism — at a 1% hit rate, a hundred doors is one job, and the maths only works if you actually reach a hundred.

4

Follow-ups honoured

Every promise kept, same day or the day named. Every drop chased within 48 hours.

Most candidates never follow up. Doing it is a live demonstration of exactly the trait a sales manager is hiring for.

5

Rehearsal reps done

Mirror, phone, sparring — before the first route day, then topped up weekly.

Fifteen doors delivered badly burns fifteen businesses permanently. There is no second first impression.

6

Board maintenance

Job alerts, board scanning, LinkedIn tidy-up, tracker updates.

Necessary admin, but it is not progress — it only feels like progress. Never let this displace a rank 1–4 task.

Track A — cash, this week (~4 hours, once)

Be honest about the trade-off: you don't want bar work, and you shouldn't do it as a career. But it pays weekly, it's the fastest yes available in Burton in August, and shifts are typically evenings — which leaves the manager-catchable daylight hours completely free for Track B. That makes it the ideal stopgap, not a defeat. Warehouse shifts pay better (£12.85–£14.42/hr) but often eat the daytime; if you take days, your route days move to your days off.

Do all of this in one sitting, tonight: register with Aligra and one other Burton agency online · apply to three supermarket home-delivery or store roles in Burton/Swadlincote · check the Amazon Flex app for local block availability · if bar work is acceptable as a bridge, walk into four pubs in Burton town centre tomorrow lunchtime and ask directly — hospitality hires on the spot in a way no other sector does.

Then stop. Track A is done. Do not let it expand — it is a bridge, not a project.

Track B — the daily shape of a route day

07:00 – 08:00
Up, dressed properly, out of the shared room
Shirt, clean shoes, no hoodie. You will be judged in the first two seconds at every door. Dress like the person already doing the job you want.
08:00 – 09:30
Prep and load
Print or count out 15 CV + letter pairs in plastic wallets. Write today's route list on paper — actual order, actual roads. Ten minutes reading the websites of the first five targets, so you have one specific line for each. Phone charged, water in the car.
09:30 – 10:00
Two mirror reps in the car before door one
Out loud. The first door of the day is always the worst one — spend it on rehearsal, not on a real business.
10:00 – 13:00
DOORS — the money window
Eight to ten drops. Ninety seconds each, name collected every time, notes scribbled in the car immediately after (who, what they said, next action). Best days are Tuesday to Thursday — Monday is often a sales-staff day off, and Saturday managers are slammed with real customers.
13:00 – 13:40
Eat, properly, sitting down
Not a garage sandwich in a car park at door nine. Energy is visibly different at door fourteen if you've eaten — and they can hear it in your voice.
13:40 – 16:00
DOORS — second half, plus live phone calls
Another four to six drops. Between them, from the car: chase every drop from 48 hours ago, and ring anyone who said "call me". Avoid ringing sales floors 12–2pm — that's their busiest customer window.
16:00 – 18:00
Off. Genuinely off.
Gym, food, family, nothing. This job is rejection-heavy and a burnt-out cold-caller is a bad cold-caller. Rest is part of the method, not a reward for finishing.
18:00 – 19:30
NIGHT ADMIN — the compounding hour
Send every email you promised today, by name. Apply to anything new that appeared on the boards. Update the tracker with today's four numbers. Write tomorrow's route from what you learned today. This is where a good day turns into a job offer — the daylight generates leads, the evening converts them.
19:30 onwards
Yours
Or a bar shift, if that's the Track A job — which is exactly why bar work fits this schedule better than it looks.

The 14-day plan

Tonight
Track A in full (agency registrations, three stopgap applications, Flex check) + send the two easiest named applications: the Shane email for We Buy Any Motorcaravan and the Holdcroft portal application. Two shots on target before bed on day zero.
Day 1 · Fri
Remaining four named applications (Arnold Clark, bet365, EMED, Spinney) sent properly, each with its tailored CV and letter. Then sparring session one — eight cards with a family member. Print 30 CV/letter pairs.
Weekend
Prep, not doors — weekends are bad for CV drops. Walk into four town-centre pubs about bar work (they hire on the spot at weekends). Set Indeed and Reed alerts. Sort LinkedIn and your voicemail greeting. Sparring session two, harder. Memorise the six numbers and write up the three stories: the best deal, the customer who nearly walked, the month you did 25 against 21.
Day 4 · Tue
THE LEISURE RUN (Route 3) — your best doors, done first. Open at Hilton DE65: Don Amott Leisure Kingdom, Hilton Garage and UKD Diggers share that one postcode — three serious doors before 11am. Then Blackwood at Swadlincote, Tamworth Camping at Needwood, and the Barton-under-Needwood cluster (Cutlers, Lakeland Boats). These are the businesses where you're a trained insider, not a hopeful.
Day 5 · Wed
ROUTE 1 — Burton and Swadlincote. The remaining local doors, 12–15 of them, all inside fifteen minutes. Chase yesterday's drops from the car between calls. Night admin without exception.
Day 6 · Thu
ROUTE 2 — Derby and Castle Donington. Biggest cluster in the radius, 13 doors. Treat AvailableCar as a proper application, not a drop — they're actively recruiting sales staff.
Day 7 · Fri
Consolidation day. No new doors. Chase every outstanding drop by phone, send every owed email, tally week one's numbers, and re-cut the route list based on who actually responded. Then take the weekend.
Week 2
Repeat the shape, wider: Route 4 Lichfield and Tamworth (12 doors, tight cluster) · Route 5 Stoke and Newcastle-under-Lyme — stay at your grandparents' the night before, which turns a 40-minute drive into a five-minute one and lets you say "I'm local" honestly · Route 6 Stafford, Stone and the Uttoxeter corridor, with the Route 7 machinery dealers folded in as you pass them. Then second-touch the best twenty from week one: the second visit is where cold turns warm, and it's the visit nobody else ever makes.
Gate · Day 14
Review with Dad. If there's no interview after roughly 100 doors and 6 applications, the problem is the delivery, not the market — film a rep, watch it back, fix the pitch. If there are interviews, cut door volume immediately and pour the hours into preparing for them properly. Converting one live interview beats knocking thirty more doors.

The scoreboard

Four numbers, every route day, written down. Not felt — written.

Doors
Target 12–15 per route day
Names
Target: one per door. No name = a wasted drop
Conversations
Anything past the doorstep. Expect 2–4 a day
Follow-ups owed
Must hit zero every night

Realistic expectations, so the maths doesn't demoralise you: roughly 100 doors produces something like 20–30 real conversations, perhaps 5–10 people who genuinely keep the CV, 2–4 interviews, and one offer. Ninety-nine doors are supposed to fail. That isn't the campaign going wrong — that IS the campaign. Anyone who quits at door 40 was always going to get nothing; the whole thing only pays out at the far end.

The application pack (built 30 July)

Thirteen PDFs, ready to send — a master CV plus a tailored CV and researched cover letter for each of the six named targets. They're in the family iCloud folder: ade-health-dashboard → henry-work → applications. Ask Dad to AirDrop the set.

TargetWhat the pair says
Holdcroft Nissan, HanleyCV leads with dealership sales + SAF finance approval; letter cites their 1966 Hanley founding, family values and training investment, and your Stoke family connection
We Buy Any MotorcaravanCV leads with inspection, video walk-arounds and negotiation; letter mirrors their 1,000-motorhomes-a-year, paid-before-we-drive-away model and is straight about C1

The numbers are in — and they're the best thing on the CV

Every document now leads with what you actually did in 2025: 155 caravans sold, around £2.7m of retail value, at an average unit price of £17,500 — and a best month of 25 units against a target of 21, which is 119% of target. Underneath that sits the line most sales managers will care about even more: around ten warranty and accessory sales a month — extended warranties (£209–£959), E-move motor movers for single and twin axles (£859–£1,970), Tyron Safety Bands (£170) — the dealership's higher-margin revenue.

That last point is the one to say out loud in an interview. Anyone can shift units when a customer already wants one. Attaching high-margin extras to two-thirds of your deals is the skill a dealer principal actually pays for, because that's where his profit lives, not in the metal.

Now verified against the commission scheme itself. The documents show the dealership's published bonus tiers topped out at 150 sales a year and 21+ units a month — and you cleared both. That's why the CVs now say you "cleared the top tier of the dealership's published annual bonus scheme" rather than just "beat target": it's the employer's own definition of top performance, not self-assessment, and it's checkable on a reference call.

Three housekeeping notes. The £2.7m is 155 × £17,500 — arithmetic from your own figures, so be ready to show the working. The references section now reads "available on request", because the old CV printed two people's personal contact details. And one small mismatch to be aware of: your contract job title was "Caravan Sales Person" while the CVs say "Sales Executive" — normal practice and not a problem, but if a reference check queries it, the honest answer is that Sales Executive describes the role and Caravan Sales Person was the contractual wording.

The 100 doors — cold-call list · 107 verified

Nobody on this list is advertising for you. That's the point: you arrive before the ad exists. Every business here sells something expensive that people think hard about buying — which is precisely what you've spent two years learning to sell. Work it as geographic routes, twelve to fifteen doors a day, master CV and a printed letter in hand.

The doorstep script

"Morning — is the owner or sales manager about? I'm Henry. I've sold caravans in Burton for the last two years — high-value stuff, finance-approved, the full process. I know you're not advertising; I'm calling in before you need to. This is my CV and a letter. If a sales seat ever opens up, I'd like to be the first name you think of." Hand it over, thank them, leave. Ninety seconds, no lingering. If they want to talk, they'll stop you leaving.

Why these businesses, and not just "any shop"

Every door on this list sells something expensive that people think hard about buying — a caravan, a car, a kitchen, a hot tub, a digger. That's not a coincidence, it's the whole filter. A £20,000 considered purchase is sold the same way whatever the product: build trust, handle the doubt, arrange the finance, close it gently. You already do that job. A kitchen showroom owner doesn't care that your last product had wheels; he cares that you've sat with a nervous couple spending their savings and got them to sign.

They're also nearly all independents and family firms. That matters more than size: at a family business the person who can hire you is on the premises, and can say yes on the spot. At a national chain, your CV goes into a portal and dies. Small firms also don't advertise — they hire the person who happened to turn up. That's the crack you're walking through.

Route Day 3 — THE LEISURE TRADE · 28 doors · your highest-conversion list

Do this route first — before Burton, before Derby

Everywhere else on this page, you're a salesperson asking to learn a new product. Here, you're a trained caravan salesman walking into a caravan business. You know the brands, the layouts, the damp checks, the season, the buyers, the finance, the handover — and you're SAF approved. These owners spend months trying to find someone who already understands the trade, and most of them have never advertised a vacancy in their lives.

The two-in-one: Don Amott Leisure Kingdom and Hilton Garage share the postcode DE65 5FJ. Two of the biggest doors on the entire list, one car park, fifteen minutes from Burton. Start your whole campaign there.

The holiday-park angle nobody thinks about

Those four holiday parks sell static caravans and lodges from £25,000 to £65,000 — and they employ on-park sales staff to do it. It's the same product family you already sell, to the same demographic, with the same finance conversations. Sales roles there are almost never advertised on the big job boards; they're filled by whoever the park manager happens to meet. That's you, on a Tuesday morning, with a CV in your hand.

Route Day 7 — machinery, plant & trade counters · 18 doors · the least-competed list here

Why this one is worth your time even though it's the least obvious

Nobody your age walks into a tractor dealership asking for sales work — which is exactly why it's worth doing. These firms sell £40,000–£150,000 machines to farmers and contractors, they're mostly family-owned, they struggle to find young sales staff, and they pay well when they do. Two things on your CV land here specifically: you operated tractors to move caravans around the yard (so you're not frightened of the kit), and you're finance-approved (machinery is almost always sold on finance). Spread these across your Uttoxeter and Stafford days rather than doing them in one hit — they're rural and far apart.

The full tally — 107 verified doors

Motor trade 34 · leisure trade 28 · big-ticket home and garden 28 · machinery, plant and trade 19, less two firms appearing on two routes. Every single one was checked against its own live website or an active dealer listing on 30 July 2026 — no directory scrapings, no closed businesses, no guesses. Where a business is appointment-only or corporate-owned rather than independent, it says so in the row.

Six businesses on this list are already hiring (marked in teal): Hilton Garage, AvailableCar, The Potteries Motorcycles, Stafford Motorcycles, plus Spinney and Holdcroft from your application pack. Do those as applications, properly, before you do them as cold calls.

Phone numbers marked "via website" are firms whose sites block automated reading — the business is live and verified, you'll just need to grab the number off the site yourself. Ten minutes of copying on a night-admin session.

The rehearsal room

You don't practise on real doors — real doors are the exam. Salespeople rehearse like actors: out loud, against resistance, until the words survive contact with a bad mood. The aim isn't a perfect script. It's that your voice sounds the same after a "no" as after a "yes". Ten fake rejections in the kitchen make the first real one boring.

The three reps — in order

1 · Mirror (solo). Say the 90-second doorstep script out loud ten times at the mirror. Not in your head — out loud. Watch your hands, your shoulders, where your eyes go. By rep ten it should sound like you talking, not you reciting.

2 · Phone (solo). Record the follow-up call script and the voicemail script as voice notes on your phone. Listen back. The cringe is the point — that's the version strangers currently hear. Re-record until the cringe goes.

3 · Sparring (with family). Someone plays the manager. They secretly pick a card from the deck below and play it straight. You knock, they answer, you deal with whatever comes. Two sessions of eight cards before the first route day.

Learn these six numbers cold — before any rehearsal

A salesperson who fumbles their own figures is a salesperson who didn't hit them. These need to come out flat, fast and without looking up:

155
Units sold in 2025

Retail value written that year
£17,500
Average unit price

Best month against target — 119%

Approved, and finance approved

Say it as one sentence, ten times, until it's boring: "Last year I sold a hundred and fifty-five caravans — about two point seven million pounds' worth — averaging seventeen and a half grand a unit. My best month was twenty-five against a target of twenty-one, and I was adding about ten warranties or accessory packages a month on top."

Then practise the follow-up you'll definitely be asked: "How?" The answer is not "I worked hard." It's the specific thing you did — the video walkthroughs that let you close buyers who never visited the site, the Auto Trader listings you ran yourself, the fact you were finance-approved so you could arrange the lending in the room instead of handing the customer to someone else. Have that answer ready; it's the one that gets you hired.

The doorstep deck — tap a card to reveal the coaching

1 · The brush-off — "Just leave it with reception, we'll pass it on."
Tap to reveal
Play: "Course — thanks. Could I take the sales manager's name, so I can follow up next week?" Get the name, hand the CV over, leave warm. A name turns a dead drop into a live lead.
Don't: push past the brush-off or launch the pitch anyway. The win here is the name, not the conversation.
2 · The flat no — "We're not hiring."
Tap to reveal
Play: "I know — that's why I've come now instead of when there's an advert and fifty CVs. If anything changes, you've got mine." Smile, thank them, go.
Don't: argue, or let your shoulders drop on the way out — they're still watching. This card is pure reaction training: same tone, same posture as a yes.
3 · The bite — "Go on then, tell me about yourself."
Tap to reveal
Play: Thirty seconds, maximum: two years selling caravans in Burton, full sales cycle, SAF finance-approved, then one researched line about their business ("I saw you've just taken on the Swift franchise…"). Then stop and ask a question back: "How do you usually find sales staff?"
Don't: monologue. The second thirty seconds undoes the first. Whoever asks the questions runs the conversation.
4 · The gatekeeper — receptionist won't fetch anyone.
Tap to reveal
Play: Stay warm — they decide what gets said about you after the door shuts. "No problem. When's a quieter time to catch them? And who should I ask for?" A return visit at the right hour is a second impression, not a failure.
Don't: treat them as an obstacle, or get chatty for ten minutes and become a nuisance. Gatekeepers report back — make the report good.
5 · The age dig — "Bit young for this, aren't you?"
Tap to reveal
Play: Grin and land it: "Twenty-one, with two years selling twenty-grand caravans to retired couples. Most of them had the same doubt — they bought anyway."
Don't: apologise for your age or over-explain. Delivered with a smile, this line is the whole interview. Rehearse it until it comes out relaxed.
6 · The probe — "So why did you leave the caravan place?"
Tap to reveal
Play: One calm, true sentence — then pivot forward: "…so now I'm looking for a sales floor where I can build on those two years." Write your true sentence down and rehearse it until it's boring to say.
Don't: badmouth the old employer (the trade talks to itself — assume they know each other), ramble, or look at the floor. Calm beats clever here.
7 · The ambush — "I've got ten minutes now, come through."
Tap to reveal
Play: The answer is always yes. Have your three stories loaded: your best deal, your hardest customer, a month you beat target — each under a minute, each with a real number. Finish by asking one smart question about their business.
Don't: say "could I come back when I'm prepared?" — you just told them you knock on doors unprepared. This card is why the rehearsal room exists.

Sparring rules — for whoever plays the manager

Pick cards secretly and play them straight. Vary the difficulty: warm one rep, rude the next, bored the one after. Rudeness should climb over the sessions — session two should be harder than anything he'll actually meet.

Score each rep 1–5 on four things: eye contact · brevity · the ask (did he actually ask for something?) · recovery (voice and posture after the knock-back). The fourth one is the entire game.

Debrief with two questions only: "What did you do well?" then "What threw you?" No pile-ons, no re-litigating every line. One rep gets filmed on a phone per session; watch it back together once, in silence, then run it again.

Ready gates — before the first route day

Six numbers memorised and delivered flat · ten mirror reps done · voicemail and follow-up call recorded and re-recorded until they don't make you wince · two sparring sessions of eight cards · three stories written down (the best deal you closed, the customer who nearly walked, the month you beat 21 with 25) · your true one-liner for card 6 settled. Then go knock. After each route day, tally four numbers: doors, names collected, conversations, follow-ups now owed — that tally is what Dad will ask for.

Keeping your options open

Getting paid work is the priority and nothing here changes that. But a possible unfair dismissal claim has a hard deadline that runs whether you're thinking about it or not, and most claims die from drift rather than from being weak. Everything on this page takes a couple of hours in total and costs nothing. Do it once, park it, and get back to knocking doors.

Read this first — I'm not a solicitor and this isn't legal advice

What follows is a preservation checklist: the practical steps that stop options closing by accident, plus the free places to get a proper opinion. Employment law is technical and the facts matter enormously. Treat this as "don't lose the right to decide later", not as an assessment of whether he'd win.

The deadline

Termination was 27 July 2026 at 09:30. The deadline is therefore 26 October 2026 — three months minus one day. Tribunals have very little power to extend it; "I miscounted" is not an accepted excuse. That's just under thirteen weeks from today.

Before a claim can be lodged, ACAS Early Conciliation is compulsory. Notifying ACAS is free, done online or by phone, and it pauses the clock while they're involved — the conciliation window is now up to twelve weeks. So notifying ACAS early buys time rather than spending it, and it does not commit him to suing anyone. It is the single cheapest thing he can do to keep the door open.

The threshold question — now largely answered

For an ordinary unfair dismissal claim he needs two years' continuous service. The reform everyone's heard about — cutting that to six months — was passed in the Employment Rights Act 2025 but doesn't commence until 1 January 2027, so the old two-year rule applies to him.

The contract settles the continuity point, and it does so in the employer's own words. His February 2026 statement of terms says: "Your previous employment counts as part of your continuous employment, your original start date was 12/07/2024." That is the employer confirming in writing that continuous service runs from 12 July 2024 — so the re-papering of his terms in February 2026 broke nothing, and two years' continuous service completed on 12 July 2026.

And the last day is now confirmed: 27 July 2026. That is two years and fifteen days of continuous service. The qualifying-service threshold is met, with room to spare — no need to rely on notice extensions or on the 2027 reform. An ordinary unfair dismissal claim is available to him on that ground.

The timeline of 27 July — one hour fifty-five minutes

The second WhatsApp export supplies the trigger and the timings, and they're stark:

07:35:06
A 19-second video is posted to the whole-site group
Filmed in an internal storage area. The subject is an arcade basketball machine standing among stacked boards and boxes.
07:35:36
"Who did this 🤬"
Posted by the director to the whole group. Thirty seconds after the video.
07:54:36
A colleague replies "Not me"
The only reply. This is the entire visible investigation.
09:30:00
Henry's employment is terminated
One hour and fifty-five minutes after the question was asked. No notice of a meeting, no chance to prepare, nobody to speak for him.
12:55 & 15:01
Removed from both company groups
Site group at 12:55 by the sales manager, sales group at 15:01 by the director.

That gap is the case. The handbook — which the contract says forms part of his terms — promises investigation of the facts and a chance to state his case before disciplinary action, the right to be accompanied, and a right of appeal. None of that fits inside 115 minutes.

And the conduct has to clear a high bar. The only item on the gross misconduct list this could arguably touch is "deliberate damage to property" — which the employer would have to prove was both deliberate and serious. Anything less than gross misconduct means the handbook's own rule applies: "you will not normally be dismissed for a first breach of discipline."

The undocumented warnings point cuts his way, not theirs. If previous tellings-off were verbal and never written down, the employer has no live warning to rely on — and the handbook treats verbal warnings as spent after three months anyway. That forces them to run this as gross misconduct or not at all.

One more lever: the ACAS Code of Practice on disciplinary procedures requires notice of the allegation, a proper hearing, the right to be accompanied and an appeal. An unreasonable failure to follow it can increase compensation by up to 25%.

Henry's account changes this again — and this time in his favour

He's now given a full account of the meeting and everything that preceded it, and three facts in it matter more than anything else on this page.

1 · He had no idea what the meeting was about. He was upstairs with Hilary the accountant sorting a stock number when Steve asked him to "come and have a chat." His group chat was muted — he had never seen the video. So he walked in blind, had no chance to prepare, and no chance to ask for anybody to sit in with him. That right is in the handbook, which the contract says forms part of his terms, and there's a statutory right to be accompanied at a disciplinary hearing too. You cannot exercise a right you don't know you need.

2 · There were never any warnings. None. Not verbal, not written, nothing signed, nothing on his file. The door in March, the swearing, the £99 dispute — all dealt with as conversations and then dropped. That matters because the handbook says "you will not normally be dismissed for a first breach of discipline, except in the case of gross misconduct." With no warning history, the employer has to prove gross misconduct or it has no ground to stand on.

3 · And gross misconduct requires the damage to be DELIBERATE. That's the wording — "deliberate damage to property". The hoop was him throwing basketballs and the chipboard backing giving way; the bracket and ring weren't even broken. The door was excessive force. Both were accidents, both were admitted on the spot, and both times he offered to pay. Accidental damage is not on that list anywhere.

Add that the two "attitude" examples actually put to him were a joke about correcting his manager and helping a couple who walked up to him because nobody else was free — and that on the £99 row Steve had actually agreed with Henry and said Marcus was making it harder than he should have. That is not a picture of escalating, documented misconduct.

I've now moved my view on this twice and want to be straight about it: strong on the timeline alone, weak once the apology letter appeared, and genuinely arguable again now. That's what happens as evidence arrives — but the direction of travel is worth noting.

The video transcript — nineteen seconds that help you

Steve's own words on the 07:35 video, now transcribed:

"Right so I've come in today and someone has broken this. So whoever it is — so whoever it is, please come forward and, like, you know, we can't have anything decent at this place, everything gets fucking wrecked."

"Please come forward" is the important bit. It proves that at 07:35 the employer did not know who had done it. So everything they ever learned about who was responsible and whether it was deliberate was gathered in the 115 minutes before dismissing you — and on your account that was one question: "did you break the basketball hoop?"

Which exposes the real gap. The only gross-misconduct category that could possibly apply is "deliberate damage to property". You immediately said it was an accident and offered to pay. Nobody tested that. Nobody asked how it happened, nobody looked at the machine, nobody established that the bracket and ring were undamaged and the chipboard had simply given way. To dismiss for gross misconduct an employer needs a genuine belief on reasonable grounds after a reasonable investigation — and the one element that mattered was never investigated at all.

His own words describe breakage, not vandalism — "someone has broken this", and a general gripe that "everything gets wrecked". That's frustration about damage in general, not an allegation that somebody deliberately destroyed company property.

On the swearing — useful, but don't overplay it. The director used "fucking" in a broadcast to the whole site including admin and cleaning staff. That's genuinely relevant, because inconsistency of treatment goes to whether dismissal was a reasonable response. But be honest with yourself: a director venting to a group is not the same as telling your manager to "fuck off" to his face within a customer's hearing, and any employer will make that distinction. The fair use of this is narrow — it shows robust language was normal and tolerated from the top. It does not excuse what you said, and arguing that it does will make you look worse, not better.

Hilary — handle with real care

She matters: she was the last person you spoke to before being called in, so she can confirm you had no notice of what the meeting was about; she runs payroll, so she knows the status of the £2,700, the holiday calculation and the P45; and she's told you she thinks the dismissal was unfair.

But she still works there. Preserve your messages with her, unaltered — they're yours and you're entitled to them. Then leave her alone. Don't ask her to take sides, don't ask her for a statement, don't put her in a position that could cost her job. If this ever proceeds, an adviser can decide whether to seek a statement or a witness order — and an order actually protects her, because attending under one isn't volunteering against her employer.

Also worth knowing: her believing it was unfair isn't evidence that it was — a tribunal decides that. Its value is corroborating the surrounding facts, not the conclusion.

🔴 Three things are simply missing — chase these today

As of today, three days on, Henry has had no P45, no written reason for his dismissal, and no holiday pay. None of these depend on winning anything.

Holiday pay is owed outright. The contract says accrued untaken leave is paid on termination — and at the enhanced rate, salary plus the 52-week average of commission and bonuses. Not paying it is an unlawful deduction from wages.

Written reasons are a right he can enforce. With two years' service he can require a written statement of the reasons for dismissal, and the employer has 14 days to give it. If they unreasonably refuse, a tribunal can award two weeks' pay on top. Ask in writing today — and note that whatever reason they commit to in writing, they're then stuck with.

The P45 he needs anyway for his next job and for tax.

⚠ The apology message is still their best document

At 12:34 on 27 July, three hours after the meeting, Henry sent Steve a long written message. In it he says he "completely agree[s] with your assessment that I've been dismissive, disrespectful and arrogant at times", takes "full responsibility", and says "I understand why you made the decision you did." He then asks to be considered for another chance. Steve replied warmly that evening, declining.

That message is the single most important document in the bundle, and it cuts against a claim. Any employer defending a tribunal case would put it front and centre: an unprompted, written, same-day admission agreeing with the employer's assessment and accepting the decision. It does three things — it establishes the real reason for dismissal was a pattern of conduct over the year rather than one incident with a basketball machine; it makes it very hard for Henry to argue the substance was wrong; and it damages his credibility if he later says something different.

He must expect it read to him line by line, and he needs a truthful, unrattled answer. The natural one: he was dismissed on the spot with no warning, nobody to speak for him, and was cut off whenever he tried to answer — then wrote three hours later hoping to save his job. Tribunals see that often from young employees and understand it.

Two things blunt it. It concedes attitude — it does not concede gross misconduct, and it does not concede that dismissal was fair. And it was written by a 21-year-old with no advice, hours after being sacked without notice, asking to be reconsidered. That is not a considered admission obtained with representation.

The honest tension he has to be ready for: "I was cut off and couldn't defend myself" sitting alongside "I completely agree with your assessment." Both can be true — but he needs to be able to say why, calmly, without sounding as though he's changed his story. Rehearse that answer before speaking to anyone.

Also serious, and he shouldn't kid himself: telling his manager to "fuck off" twice, once within a customer's hearing, is real. An employer will push hard on whether that alone justified dismissal. The answer is that they took no formal action at the time on either occasion — and an employer that lets conduct pass without action struggles to resurrect it months later as grounds for summary dismissal.

Where this leaves the money — and the reference

The wage claims are unaffected by all of the above and are the clearest money on the table. They don't depend on winning anything. Four items: £2,700 trailing commission from the 26 June–25 July statement, for sales completed before the 27th; accrued holiday at the enhanced rate (salary plus the 52-week commission average — still unpaid); one month's notice pay, £1,600+ on salary alone, owed unless gross misconduct is actually established; and written reasons, which he can require and which carry a two-weeks'-pay award if unreasonably refused. Together that's plausibly a mid-four-figure sum, obtainable by one precise letter.

Both 2025 annual bonuses were paid — £3,000 in the October payroll and £2,000 in December, both visible on the statements. Nothing owed there. And the 2026 counter stood at 93 units by 25 July, short of the 130 threshold, so no 2026 bonus had triggered. I flagged those as possible unpaid sums earlier; the statements show they were handled correctly.

And read Steve's reply again, because it matters more than the claim: "I really did like you and from where you started to where you was at, you really did impress me." That is a director who would very likely give a decent reference about Henry's sales ability. Weigh that against suing him. For a 21-year-old rebuilding a career in a trade where everyone knows everyone within thirty miles, a workable reference from Burton Caravan Centre may be worth considerably more than a reduced procedural award.

My honest recommendation, updated: send one precise letter today covering the four items above plus the P45. Notify ACAS this week to protect the 26 October deadline — free and commits to nothing. Get a proper opinion on the unfair dismissal claim now rather than later, because with no warnings on file and accidental damage that isn't on the gross misconduct list, it is more arguable than it looked yesterday. Then put the real energy into the 107 doors — the faster he's earning, the stronger he is in every conversation, including this one.

What the documents say about how a dismissal had to be handled

His disciplinary rights were contractual, not just policy. The statement of terms says the disciplinary rules "form part of your contract of employment". The handbook then promises: investigation before any disciplinary action, the right to be accompanied at formal stages, that "you will not normally be dismissed for a first breach of discipline, except in the case of gross misconduct", and a right of appeal within five working days.

The gross misconduct list is short and specific: theft or fraud, physical violence or bullying, deliberate damage to property, deliberate discrimination or harassment, drugs at work, and serious health-and-safety breaches endangering others. That's it. If what happened doesn't sit squarely in that list, then dismissal without prior warnings runs against the employer's own contractual procedure — which matters for unfair dismissal and separately for wrongful dismissal if notice wasn't given.

The handbook does reserve discretion to shorten procedure for "short service" staff — but with two years in, Henry isn't short service, so that carve-out shouldn't be available to them.

Also worth noting: the notice he was owed from the employer was one month (post-probation, under five years' service), and they reserved the right to pay in lieu. Check the final payslip for a full month's notice pay unless the dismissal was for gross misconduct.

Route 3 is clear — no restrictive covenants

I've read the full contract and all 425 paragraphs of the handbook. There is no non-compete clause, no non-solicitation clause and no restraint of trade provision anywhere in either document. Nothing prevents him working for a competing caravan dealer, and nothing stops him approaching one.

So the leisure-trade route is completely open — Don Amott, Blackwood, Venture, Spinney, all of it. The only constraint left is the ordinary duty of confidentiality: don't take or use customer data or price lists. Knock the doors with a clear conscience.

The claim most likely to actually pay him — and it needs no qualifying period

Set unfair dismissal aside, because this is the part most likely to produce actual cash — and it needs no qualifying service and no argument about fairness. Unpaid wages and commission is an unlawful deduction from wages matter. The fifteen commission statements have now been read line by line, so this is settled fact rather than speculation.

1 · Trailing commission — the cleanest claim, and it has a number on it. Commission runs on a 26th-to-25th cycle, paid in the following payroll. His final statement covers 26 June to 25 July 2026 and totals £2,700 — all of it for sales completed before he was dismissed on the 27th. Salary is paid on the 27th, the very morning he was dismissed at 09:30. The scheme says entitlement ceases on termination "save in respect of orders obtained by you which have been paid for by the purchaser prior to such date" — and this statement is the employer's own record that those sales completed. On top of that: the four deals he logged in the group between 20 and 25 July with completion dates of 31 July to 4 August, at least one of which had £500 already transferred before he left.

2 · The annual volume bonuses — RESOLVED, both paid. The scheme pays £3,000 at 130 sales and £2,000 at 150 sales in a calendar year. The statements show the £3,000 went through the October 2025 payroll and the £2,000 through December 2025. Nothing outstanding. And the 2026 counter had only reached 93 units by 25 July, short of the 130 threshold, so no 2026 bonus had triggered either. I flagged both of these as possibly unpaid; they were handled correctly. Incidentally, payment of the 150-unit bonus independently proves he sold at least 150 units in 2025 — it corroborates the 155 on his CV.

3 · Holiday pay at the right rate. The contract is explicit that holiday pay is normal pay "plus a daily top-up based on the average bonus and commission earnings over the previous 52 weeks", and that accrued untaken leave is paid on termination. If his final payslip calculated accrued holiday on the £20,000 basic alone, it was underpaid — and since his commission was comparable to his salary, that shortfall could be most of the value again. This is one of the most common payroll errors there is.

The same 26 October deadline applies. Start with a polite, specific written request: "please confirm when the £2,700 shown on my 26 June–25 July commission statement will be paid, whether any commission is due on orders paid on 26 and 27 July, and how accrued holiday was calculated." Naming the figure and the statement makes it very hard to fudge, and this sort of thing is often settled without any claim once someone asks precisely.

The checklist — do these once, this week

Get the exact last day — this is now the only open question

Continuous service is confirmed in the contract as starting 12 July 2024, so two years completed 12 July 2026. Everything now turns on the effective date of termination. Get it from the P45 and final payslip, and note whether he was given notice, made to work it, paid in lieu, or dismissed on the spot.

Request written reasons for dismissal, in writing

An employee with two years' service can require a written statement of the reasons for dismissal, and the employer has 14 days to provide it. Send a short, unemotional email asking for it. It costs nothing, it starts a paper trail, and the answer — or a refusal to answer — is itself useful.

Answer five questions in writing — today

(1) What actually happened with the basketball machine — what did he do, what did others do, was anything damaged? (2) What was said at 09:30: who was present, what reason was given, was he asked for his account? (3) Was he offered the right to be accompanied? (4) Was he told he could appeal, and by when? (5) What were the previous tellings-off about, when, by whom, and was anything ever put in writing? Write it today — memory degrades and tribunals run on contemporaneous detail.

Video transcribed — DONE

Saved as evidence/2026-07-27_0735_video-TRANSCRIPT.txt alongside the unaltered original. Key line: "please come forward" — proof the employer didn't know who was responsible at 07:35. See the panel above.

Gather the rest of what he legitimately holds

Contract, handbook and commission structure are already secured. Still needed: payslips, P60, P45, the final payslip, any letters or emails about the dismissal, and relevant texts or WhatsApps on his own phone. Note the company WhatsApp group was admin'd by Stephen Howard and Leah Simmill, so messages there may be relevant. Back everything up off the phone.

Chase the £2,700 — in writing, by name

The 26 June–25 July commission statement totals £2,700 for sales completed before the 27 July dismissal, due in the payroll that runs on the 27th. Ask when it will be paid. Then: any commission on orders paid 26–27 July; accrued holiday at the enhanced rate (salary plus the 52-week commission average, not bare salary); and a full month's notice pay unless gross misconduct is established. The annual bonuses are already confirmed paid — don't chase those.

Note the witnesses — personal contacts only

Names of colleagues who saw what happened, with personal mobile numbers, not work ones. People move on and get harder to trace. Don't ask them to take sides; just don't lose them.

Notify ACAS Early Conciliation

Free, quick, non-committal, and it pauses the deadline. ACAS helpline 0300 123 1100. Doing this does not mean suing anyone — it means the decision stays available.

Get one free proper opinion

One conversation with someone qualified will tell him in ten minutes whether the two-year point is met.

Restrictive covenants — DONE, and clear

Contract and full handbook both read: no non-compete, no non-solicitation, no restraint of trade. Route 3 needs no further checking. Just don't take customer data.

Keep the job-hunt log — it does double duty

See below. This is the part that surprises people.

The bit that ties both priorities together

His door-knocking tracker is also his legal evidence

If an unfair dismissal claim ever succeeds, compensation is based largely on actual financial loss — and a claimant is expected to have taken reasonable steps to reduce that loss by looking for new work. This is called mitigation, and employers routinely attack it: "he didn't really try."

So the scoreboard he's already keeping — doors knocked, names collected, applications sent, follow-ups made, dated — is precisely the record that answers that attack. A candidate who can produce a dated log of 107 businesses visited and dozens of applications is unanswerable on mitigation. Chasing work aggressively doesn't compete with the claim; it strengthens it. Do the doors, keep the log, and both priorities are served by the same effort.

What not to do

Don't take company data he doesn't already hold. Forwarding customer lists, sales records or internal emails to a personal account can breach confidentiality and data protection rules, and it hands the other side a stick to beat him with. Work from what he legitimately has plus his own written recollection.

Don't sign a settlement agreement without advice. If one appears, it will waive his claims. He is normally entitled to have his legal costs for that advice paid by the employer — so taking it costs him nothing.

Don't discuss it at interviews or on the doorstep. Card 6 in the rehearsal room covers the "why did you leave?" question: one calm sentence, then pivot forward. A live grievance mentioned at a job interview reads as risk, however justified it is. Keep the two tracks completely separate.

Don't let it eat the fortnight. A tribunal claim, if it goes anywhere, resolves in months and might yield a few weeks' pay. A sales job resolves his income permanently. The checklist above exists so the claim can wait its turn without expiring.

Hi Shane,

I'm applying for the Motorhome Buyer role at Bretby. I'm 21, live in Burton, and
I've spent the last two years selling used caravans locally — so appraising leisure
vehicles, spotting damp and damage, talking to owners about realistic prices and
filming walk-arounds is work I already know.

Being straight with you: I hold a full clean category B licence (three years, zero
points, clean DBS) but not C1 yet. If C1 is essential I'll book the medical and
tests immediately — I can have it inside a few weeks at my own cost.

I'd rather show you than tell you — could I come in for a chat any day this week?
My CV is attached.
